How it works:
A split system consists of two units, a fan and an evaporator, which is usually mounted on a wall inside the property. There is also a compressor, which is generally placed outside the building. Air is drawn through the coil of the indoor unit, evaporating the refrigerant inside the coil, before it is drawn back to the outdoor to the compressor, compressed back to liquid form and begins the process again. For heating purposes the system works in the opposite way with and internal reversing valve to reverse the operation of the indoor and outdoor systems.

HOW DO THEY WORK?
Ducted air conditioning consists of two units – one outside the house, and the other often found inside the roof. The air is taken from a return vent, cooled via a refrigeration process and then delivered back into the house via vents in each room through a series of tubing called ducts.
ZONES
Ducted air conditioner systems have a zone controller to allow the homeowner to select which zones they would like cooled. This helps to save energy and allows the system to work more efficiently by only cooling the rooms / areas that you need cooled. You may only want the living areas cooled during the day, and the bedrooms cooled in the late afternoon.
WHAT IS DUCTED REVERSE CYCLE AIR CONDITIONING?
Ducted reverse cycle air conditioners are able to reverse the refrigeration cycle, which allows them to both cool and heat a property. When the refrigeration cycle is reversed, the condenser becomes an evaporator, and cool air is pulled into the system and converted to heat. Most modern ducted air conditioners have reverse cycle capability.
WHAT IS A DUCTED INVERTER AIR CONDITIONER?
Inverter technology allows an air conditioner’s compressor to change speed. In older air conditioning systems, the compressor has two modes—on, or off. When the compressor is on, it goes at full speed until the desired temperature is reached, and then switches itself off. With inverter technology, the compressor is able to change its speed, allowing it to pump the appropriate amount of refrigerant through the system (rather than going at full pelt). This makes it up to 30% more efficient.
DUCTED REVERSE CYCLE
Ducted reverse cycle air conditioning reverses the cooling process by cooling warm air and releasing cooled air into the home. By reversing the operation, the system pulls in cool air and releases warm air into the home. As ducted reverse cycle can both heat and cool your home, it is the only system you need all year around for both heating and cooling your home.
